Hi, I’m Zoe Krainik! Thank you for checking out my blog.
I started this blog in 2018 as an attempt to discuss my love of both genealogy and old Hollywood. The reasons for this can be found in myย mission statement,ย but the catalyst was stumbling upon a distant cousin’s genealogy blog as I was researching my 10th great grandfather, Hans Herr (a complete list of surnames is here). I became inspired to start my own and here we are!ย I love the idea that we are all, in some way, connected.
I had actually signed up for this blog site years ago, in the hopes of making it a food and drink recipe blog (hence the now confusing and unrelated Zesty URL)…and then never even wrote one post. I guess Old Hollywood and genealogy is a bit more up my alley.
In addition to the silver screen and deep dives into my family tree, I love the ocean, reading (yes, bios of old Hollywood movie stars for the most part), very large iced espressos, ’90s and electronic music, and heaps of whimsy. I worked as a photographer for about 10 years so, when in need of a photo, a few of mine may pop up here and there throughout the blog.
If you happen to stumble across my blog someday and realize that we are in fact 7th cousins, maybe you should consider it divine foreshadowing and start a blog, too! I will tell you now that I would love to read it. But at the very least, send me a hello. I love comments so feel free to post some, 7th cousin or no!
Thank you for stopping by!
Hi Zoe,
There is a long, involved story here but my sister, Dene (Geraldine) just sent me a forward messsage regarding my Dad, Elmer (your blog October 13, 2018). I want to thank you and to let you know that you now have another avid reader.
I also sent a copy of your blog to my granddaughter, Katie Isola who is a senior at San Diego State University studying anthropology. She is an avid history buff and just finished an archaeology dig. I’m sure she’ll be reading, too.
Thanks again for your excellent writing and a very brief glimpse into the past.
Elmer

Hi Elmer! I’m so glad to hear from you! Sorry it took me a few days to respond, I saw your message when I was out of town (coincidentally, on a genealogy related trip). I admit, I’m extremely fascinated by these Mihalovich family members of ours! They’ve proven quite interesting and often fun to research. I’d love to connect with Katie, too. An archaeology dig sounds pretty exciting! Thank you so much for reading & reaching out!

Hi Zoe
Michael Kestler is our connection. I have been researching him for years. I live 3 blocks from his final resting place. If there is anything I can help with, let me know.
